Given the turmoil in financial markets, you might think consumers would want advice on how to sew their remaining savings into a mattress. However, they continue to seek more conventional financial advice. The chart here, excerpting a Public Policy Polling/Capstrat poll fielded in late June, indicates which sources they take most seriously. Women were more than twice as likely as men (20 percent vs. 8 percent) to cite a Google search as most influential the last time they sought information on a financial matter.
