If you’ve had the courage to look at your 401(k) statements in the past year, you know the recession has hammered people’s retirement accounts. But the decline in asset values isn’t the whole story. Economic pressures have moved lots of people to raid their own retirement funds, while others have ceased contributing to retirement accounts, as we learn from a new AARP report.

Polling conducted over the summer asked 45-64-year-olds whether the recession has prompted them to take various steps related to their retirement savings.
