It’s not quite stop-the-presses news, but women are not entirely honest. (Neither, for that matter, are men, but we’re dealing here with a poll of women.) A survey by a women’s Web site called BettyConfidential.com asked women a number of question about their attitudes and behavior with respect to lying, yielding interesting (if not entirely honest) responses.

At its most benign, lying is seen by women as a form of tact. Thus, 36 percent of the poll’s respondents said lying is acceptable “when it saves another person’s feelings,” roughly matching the 38 percent who said it’s OK to lie “for the betterment of a person or situation.”
