Toyota Gets New Marketing Chief

DETROIT - Toyota Motor Sales USA has appointed Jim Lentz to vice president of marketing, replacing Steve Sturm who moves over to the automaker's Toyota Logistics Services unit.

Lentz, currently vice president of Scion, Toyota's new youth-oriented vehicle line, will be responsible for the Toyota Division's market planning, advertising, merchandising, sales promotion, incentives and Internet activities. He retains his Scion duties and will continue to report to Don Esmond, senior vice president and general manager of the Toyota Division.

AT TLS, Sturm is replacing Jim Byers, who is retiring at the end of the year. His new duties include responsibility for all TLS operations in the U.S., including the processing and accessorizing of new Toyota and Lexus vehicles and their delivery to dealerships and the export of North American-produced vehicles to overseas. Sturm also continues to report to Esmond.

In other personnel news, Jim Farley, corporate manager of Scion, is promoted to vice president. He will be responsible for the launch of the Scion line, which begins next year in California. He continues to report to Lentz.
