Sony Ericsson, "Kristen Is Killing It"

Kristen Schaal is crazy. The comedian, best known for her work on The Daily Show and Flight of the Conchords, shines in five hilarious new Web skits from McCann Worldgroup promoting Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play smartphone. The phone itself is being positioned as mullet-like device—stuffed with useful business utilities in the front, but with a kick-ass gaming system in the back. Schaal is the perfect person to convey this kind of Jeckyll-and-Hyde proposition. She's sweet and innocent on the surface, yet sick and demented deep down. In the clip shown here, she pitches all the boring stuff like e-mail and voice search, and then explodes into a profanity-laden celebration of shooter games, toting a machine gun for good measure. Other installments in the series show her battling against herself through two phones, turning into a demon as one clip starts to play backwards, and transforming into a crossbow-wielding midget to demonstrate a fantasy game. She apparently improvised a fair bit of the dialogue (working off an initial script), and the results are brilliant. I'm not sure I'll buy an Xperia Play, but I'll certainly keep an eye out for Kristen's next standup gig. —Tim Nudd
