Looking for an edge in the fiercely competitive LCD TV category, Sharp will break its first TV ads touting its legacy in solar energy next week. Sharp, which at one point had been the leading seller of LCD TVs, has slipped to No. 5, per NPD, Port Washington, N.Y.

Sharp has been selling solar panels since 1963. It hopes its new expanded brand campaign (previously it focused primarily on LCDs) will get consumers thinking differently about the brand as well as consider adding panels to their homes.
