Pat Robertson has teamed up with John Stein's Band of Gypsies agency to handle the estimated $1-2 million Santa Monica Bank account.
Robertson--who served as vice president, management supervisor, on the bank's account while at Hajjar and Partners (now JSM+ Communications) in Marina del Rey, Calif.--has formed BullsEye Communications, a strategic planning and public relations firm, to continue to service the business. Stein and his boutique Band of Gypsies in Pacific Palisades, Calif., will handle creative duties on the account.
"Pat Robertson has the experience and expertise to understand banking," said Aubrey L. Austin, president and chief executive officer at Santa Monica Bank. "What is important is the relationship she has created with our bank."
"We consider ourselves a hybrid between the virtual and the large agency conglomerate, from which both John and myself came," Robertson said. "I think that we share a vision that today's changing business environment needs a more streamlined approach. We are a new way to go at that."
Separately, the alliance between Stein and Robertson has picked up two additional pieces of undisclosed business. The two plan to open an office together in Venice, Calif., in early 1998. "There are a million opportunities out there right now," Stein said, adding that he and Robertson are also in talks with other potential clients.
Band of Gypsies has also landed several new pieces of business, including projects for EarthLink Network and Elixir Tonics & Teas. The shop's client roster also includes Soap Shoe and Big City Bagel.
Robertson has worked with Santa Monica Bank for over 10 years, during her stints at N.W. Ayer in Los Angeles, Team One Advertising in El Segundo, Calif., and Hajjar. The account did not carry over when Hajjar became JSM+ Communications following the departure of agency president Norman Hajjar.
The 70-year-old bank, which has eight branches in the Los Angeles area, recently acquired Los Angeles' Western Bank, which will add five additional area branches in 1998.
