Quiznos Taps Horizon, Pohmedia

NEW YORK Quiznos has selected Horizon Media and Pohmedia to succeed IPG's Initiative without a review, the client has confirmed.

Horizon will handle buying for Quiznos. Strategic brand consultancy Pohmedia will oversee media strategy on the assignment. The latter was founded by Jim Poh, the former media director at MDC Partners' Crispin Porter + Bogusky.

The client spent an estimated $90 million in domestic measured media in 2008, according to Nielsen, up from $80 million the previous year.

The incumbent on the business was Initiative, which confirmed the switch, without further comment. Horizon executives could not be reached for comment.

In a statement the client said: "Quiznos made a shift in its media planning and buying based on strategic considerations. pohmedia and Horizon Media will be strong partners for media planning and buying and we look forward to working with both."

Horizon has been on a new-business streak of late. Late last month, it added the $10-12 million Mike's Hard Lemonade account. Other recent pickups for Horizon include Sands Casino Resort and Modell's Sporting Goods, worth $10-20 million combined. The shop is also contending for Activision Blizzard, which spends $200 million annually in measured media, and would rank as one of its largest and most visible accounts should Horizon prevail.
