Planning on a Change: Ground Zero's Expanding Team Hires BBDO West's Senior Account Planner

LOS ANGELES--Tamara Thompson has joined Ground Zero's growing account planning team.





She was previously the senior account planner at BBDO West in Los Angeles, where she headed planning efforts on Apple Computer for the past two years. Thompson also was responsible for planning in BBDO West's successful pitches for L.A. Cellular and Best Western International.





Asked why she decided to leave BBDO West for Ground Zero, Thompson explained that the Santa Monica, Calif., shop presented her opportunities to work on a variety of projects.





'I'll be doing everything,' she said. 'Ground Zero is so different. It lacks a structure and a process, so you can experiment. You're not limited in what you can do.'





Thompson will report to Andrew Gledhill, head of account planning, who praised Thompson's professionalism, discipline and integrity.





Thompson has begun work on shaping the marketing strategy for Ground Zero's new client, City National Bank, as well as other account projects.





Prior to joining BBDO West, Thompson had freelanced at several New York agencies, including Berlin Wright Cameron and Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners. She also worked at Ogilvy & Mather in New York on repositioning Surf detergent.





Thompson, who began her career a decade ago at TBWA Chiat/Day in Venice, Calif., returned to the West Coast because she missed 'the mentality.' The agencies 'are more entrepreneurial here,' she said.
