Christopher J. Fra-leigh's experience in field marketing will be key in his new role as executive director of corporate market-ing and advertising at General Motors, a representative for the auto-maker said.
Fraleigh, known as "C.J.," joins the Detroit car maker from the Pepsi-Cola Co.'s Purchase, N.Y., headquarters, where he was vp of marketing-colas, responsible for all marketing, advertising and business activities for Pepsi's trademark brands.
Fraleigh, whose position is new, reports to John Middlebrook, GM vp and general manager, vehicle brand marketing and corporate advertising.
Fraleigh is expected to lead GM's continuing efforts to integrate its national marketing with regional and local dealer-oriented efforts, said GM representative Peg Holmes. Middlebrook cited his field-marketing ex-perience in announcing Fraleigh's appointment.
Judy Hu, director of advertising resources management, and Mi-chael Browner, executive director, media and marketing operations for GM, will both report to Fraleigh, Holmes added.
Middlebrook took over as GM's top marketer last spring following the retirement of Phil Guarascio.
Fraleigh joined Pepsi-Cola in 1989 as assistant marketing manager and served in several positions, including new products manager, senior marketing manager, director and senior director. He has experience in both established brands and new products, working with field and home office staffers, as well as retailers.
