Office Depot Creative Shifts to Zimmerman (Update 2)

Zimmerman Advertising’s Office Depot win encompasses more than the creative business that Young & Rubicam has handled since 2008.

Zimmerman, a unit of Omnicom Group, also is expected to add broadcast media planning and buying from sister shop Prometheus and possibly another assignment. As such, total account revenue will likely exceed $7 million.

Although news of the Zimmerman hire broke yesterday, the agency and Office Depot have yet to comment. The agency is based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., about 17 miles from Office Depot’s headquarters in Boca Raton.

The move comes two months after Diane Nick joined the office supply chain as vp of category marketing. Nick’s marketing experience is rooted in retail, having worked previously at Radio Shack (2008-10) and Blockbuster (1998-2008).

So, the selection of retail marketing specialist Zimmerman comes as no surprise. Zimmerman also has experience on the brand, having handled a project in 2004.

When Y&R landed the account, Office Depot’s annual media spending totaled about $120 million. That figure has declined in recent years to about $60 million last year.
