Americans feel more neighborly when facing north than facing south, to judge by Gallup polling last month. Adults were asked whether they have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of a number of foreign countries. Canada scored the best, with 90 percent viewing it favorably. Britain was the runner-up, a single percentage point behind the leader.

Mexico got just a middling score, with 51 percent expressing a favorable opinion of it. Indeed, the favorability score for Mexico this time is “the lowest Gallup has seen in many years,” says the report, a remark also applied to Russia.
