NEW YORK MJZ was the big winner at the 18th annual AICP Show, presented last night at the Museum of Modern Art here by the Association of Independent Commercial Producers.
The commercial production company received 10 honors in the show for spots including Skittles' "Piñata" and "Tailor," Lexus' "Lift Off," CareerBuilder's "Tips," Altoids' "Promotion," Brand Jordan's "Field Generals" and Pepsi's "Refresh."
"Piñata," directed by MJZ's Tom Kuntz for TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York, was honored in the Humor and Performance/Dialogue categories and received a top honor in the competition for Advertising Excellence/Single commercial. In the spot, a man made out of a piñata complains of people hitting him to try to get candy.
A Crest campaign from Saatchi & Saatchi, New York, was honored in Advertising Excellence/Campaign for the spots "Bulldozer," "Lice" and "Prenup," directed by Harold Einstein of Station Film. The series shows how even the worst news can be well received with a smile.
MJZ's Kuntz was the most honored director in the show, with a body of work that in addition to "Piñata" included Skittles' "Tailor," honored in the Performance/Dialogue categry; Lexus' "Lift Off," in Production; CareerBuilder's "Tips" in Visual Style; Altoids' "Promotion" in Production Design; Jordan Brand's "Field Generals" in Sound Design; and Pepsi's "Refresh" for Musical Arrangement.
Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, totaled the most agency awards, with 12 honors including Next Integrated Campaign for the NBA's "There Can Only Be One" and Häagen-Dazs' "HD Loves HB." The shop's Web sites for General Electric ("GE Ecoimagination"), Doritos ("Hotel 626") and Sprint ("Now") were honored for Next Website/Microsite; Comcast's "Rabbit" spot received multiple honors for Agency Art Direction, Copywriting and Visual Effects; Hewlett-Packard's "Maestro" and "Fergie" commercials were recognized for Graphic Design; and Vote 2008's "Palin as President: A Heartbeat Away" won in Low Budget.
