NEW YORK WPP Group's MediaCom has hired Adam Komack in the new position of director of the North American Dell media team and U.S. direct response practice leader. Komack will report to Euan Jarvie, U.S. chief client officer.

WPP was awarded the full-service global Dell business after a review in December 2007. The holding company tapped MediaCom, one of several media shops under the GroupM umbrella, to handle client media duties. In the U.S., Dell spent just over $200 million on ads in 2008, according to Nielsen. The client said it spent just over $810 million on ads globally for the fiscal year ended Jan. 30.

As the Dell leader, Komack will direct an integrated team of media and digital specialists, and oversee all areas of strategic planning, media implementation and buying, including result optimization and application. He will also lead global efforts on the Dell consumer business.

Commenting on the hire, Jarvie said Komack's "proven ability to combine creative business solutions with a relentless focus on ROI makes him an ideal fit for this position. Drawing on his experience in agency, client and customer service cultures, Adam has the skills to create a dynamic, collaborative working environment and achieve extraordinary business results for our client."

Komack is a 15-year marketing and agency veteran. Prior to joining MediaCom, he was CMO at Magnetik Consulting, a marketing and strategic consultancy. He also served as CMO at Eos Airlines. Prior to that, Komack was director of client services for G2 Direct & Digital (formerly Grey Direct). He also held senior positions at Omnicom's Unit 7 (formerly LLKFB) and Interpublic's Draftfcb.
