Mcgarrybowen Fills President's Role With Insider

Tom Sewell shifts from account management ranks

Sewell has worked at the agency since 2008.

Mcgarrybowen, after searching outside for an executive to lead its New York office, went for a longtime insider instead.

Tom Sewell has worked at the agency since 2008, most recently as executive managing director on Verizon. He now becomes president of New York.

As office chief, Sewell fills a vacancy created by the September 2013 exit of New York CEO Bill Borrelle for Pitney Bowes. Beyond Verizon, the office's top accounts include Chase, Chevron and Staples. New York employs more than 600 staffers.

Filling Sewell's previous role on Verizon is Will Townsend, a former senior director at BBDO on AT&T who starts next week. At mcgarrybowen, he becomes one of eight managing directors in account management.

Townsend's other brand experience includes Blackberry and General Electric. He had worked at BBDO and before that Atmosphere BBDO since 2007.
