McCann Worldgroup Continues U.K. Digital Acquisitions

McCann Worldgroup chief Nick Brien has been stepping up the pace of acquisition since he took over the company more than two years ago. In the latest deal, Worldgroup acquired U.K. digital marketing agency Lakestar Media, which has developed a focus around search engine optimization.

The company, with offices in Manchester and London, was founded five years ago by Demetrious Loizou, currently head of sales. In 2008, chief executive officer Neil McKay joined the company and has helped grow the business—which now employs 50 people. McKay will continue to run Lakestar after the acquisition is completed along with current management.

Lakestar works with clients like retailer The Co-operative, Stanley Security Systems, Butlins holiday parks, ACF Car Finance, Auto Windscreens and Halfords, a retailer of automotive and leisure products.

McCann Manchester will operate Lakestar, which will work for its own client roster as well as for marketers aligned with Worldgroup companies. The acquisition is the latest in the U.K. for Worldgroup, which bought market research company Blue Banana two years ago and, last year, interactive design shop All of Us and direct and digital agency Meteorite
