McCann Erickson has promoted John Mescall, executive creative director of McCann Australia, to global ecd.

In his new role, the Melbourne-based Mescall will move to New York. He joins recently hired global ecds James Dawson-Hollis and Bill Wright as examples of McCann Worldgroup global creative chairman Rob Reilly’s revamping of the agency’s creative ranks.

The Mescall news appropriately came the week of Cannes, where Mescall has won more than 30 Lions, including five Grand Prix for Metro Trains' “Dumb Ways to Die” and, this year, a Grand Prix for creative effectiveness for V/Line.

Before joining McCann Australia three years ago, Mescall, a writer, was a partner and ecd of Smart, an agency that McCann Worldgroup acquired in 2011.
