Michael McLaren, the CEO and chairman of McCann Worldgroup Japan, is rejoining the company’s New York operations in the new role of president, MRM East and chief client solutions director.

In September, McCann said it had named Yasuyuki Katagi president, CEO of McCann Worldgroup Japan. At the time of that announcement, McCann said McLaren would assume the role of chairman and work alongside the new CEO. McLaren, the former president of McCann Erickson U.S. and worldwide director of global accounts, had been named to the Japan job in August 2009 by John Dooner, the former CEO of McCann Worldgroup who was succeeded by Nick Brien in April 2010. (Prior to the Japan posting, McLaren had a short tenure as the New York-based CEO of Worldgroup’s EXP global production unit.)

In his new role, McLaren has oversight of the digital and direct agency’s offices in New York, Princeton, N.J., and Detroit.

McLaren’s replacement, Katagi, came from Ogilvy & Mather, where he was most recently executive director of the network’s Japan office but had also held management roles at Ogilvy offices in Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong over the past 10 years. Prior to that experience, Katagi spent the first 15 years of his career with McCann in Japan and Germany working on accounts like Nestlé, General Motors and Microsoft.

In other regional news, McCann said Prasoon Joshi has been named president McCann Worldgroup South Asia, with oversight of the company’s operations in countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Joshi has been the New Delhi-based executive chairman, CEO of McCann Worldgroup India and regional executive creative director of McCann Erickson APAC. In addition, Charles Cadell assumes the role of president of McCann Worldgroup Asia Pacific. Cadell has been the Singapore-based regional managing director of McCann Worldgroup Southeast Asia and Australia.
