Tim Mauer is moving to Chicago from Bologna, Italy, to manage and direct all Chicago-based operations of Relay Sports and Event Marketing, an affiliate of Starcom MediaVest Group. As executive vice president of Relay, Mauer will also oversee the U.S. Army sports and event marketing platform, which has expanded from two to eight programs in two years. Before Relay was acquired by Starcom in 2002, Mauer was chief executive officer of Compass International, a division of J.C. Dolan & Associates based in Bologna. While at Compass, Mauer produced interactive marketing programs in Europe and Asia-Pacific for a number of clients, including Nike, Coca-Cola, Microsoft and Footlocker. Mauer began his marketing career in 1987 with World Sports Promotions, and witnessed its transition from McCann-Erickson Event Marketing to Momentum by 1995. He later was promoted from director of operations to senior vice president and director of operations for North America. During his 12-year tenure at Momentum, he developed local and international brand programs in North America, Brazil and the Caribbean for clients including Anheuser-Busch, General Motors and American Express.
