DALLAS Kolar Advertising & Marketing was named agency for Smoothie King after a national search, the shop said.

Kolar will launch a marketing campaign to boost awareness of the client's brand, beginning later this year. Smoothie King is a privately held New Orleans-based franchise company that originated the Smoothie nutritional beverage.

"Kolar rose to the top of the competition based on enthusiasm, creative thinking and demonstrated knowledge of our product," said Steve Kuhnau, founder of Smoothie King. "Kolar's strategic approach to our needs uncovered new opportunities for our collective success, and the creative recommendations were right on-target."

Review contenders and account billings were not disclosed.

Thirty years after inventing the Smoothie, a drink that includes fruit and nutritional supplements, Smoothie King has 340 locations in 34 states and three franchisees outside the U.S.

Austin, Texas-based Kolar is a full-service agency providing advertising, branding, interactive and media services for clients ranging from technology and tourism to education and retail accounts. Headed by Rhonda Kolar, the shop was founded in 1989.
