Keiler & Co.'s Interactive Group Doubles in Size

Web-Based Projects for Spalding, Speedline Spur Growth, Hiring
BOSTON--In the past nine months, Keiler & Co.'s interactive group has acquired seven accounts and doubled in size to become the agency's second-largest department.
The 10-person unit is the leader in revenue growth at the agency in Farmington, Conn. It expects to account for $6-7 million of Keiler's overall projected 1999 billings of $63 million, according to creative director Mel Maffei.
The shop's commitment to interactive projects is notable in contrast to other Connecticut advertising agencies. Most lack formal units, choosing to collaborate with outside consultants or specialists.
Keiler has completed projects for clients such as Spalding Sports Worldwide in Chicopee, Mass.; Speedline Technologies in Franklin, Mass.; and Allied Signal in Morristown, N.J. It began developing Web sites more than a year ago, recruiting Kenn Johnson from Aetna in Hartford, Conn., to head up the fledgling group.
In recent weeks, Johnson has beefed up the staff, adding senior programmer Adam Gresh, Web productionist Philip Isaacs, Web designer Jennifer Fishman and group coordinator Andrea Hallett.
Gresh previously worked at CSC in Rocky Hill, Conn., and at Mass Mutual in Hartford. Isaacs created feature animation at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, Calif.
Once the interactive group finishes current projects in mid-2000, it plans to begin aggressively seeking more e-commerce business.
"It's going to be interesting to see what will happen when we catch our breath," Maffei said. "We are literally running out of space in here." K
