Peter Sherman is returning to Omnicom as an executive vice president after seven months at JWT. The longtime BBDO exec moved to the WPP agency as CEO of its New York office in mid-August and was promoted to chief executive of JWT North America in December.
Since Sherman's move to JWT, the management hierarchy changed: In November, JWT named Gustavo Martinez global president in line to succeed the agency’s worldwide chief Bob Jeffrey in 2015. Martinez had been president of Europe and Asia for McCann Worldgroup.
In his new Omnicom client role, Sherman will report directly to holding company CEO John Wren. Sherman isn’t joining Omnicom, the corporate parent of BBDO, for a few months and the company declined to specify at this point which marketers he will be handling. Wren has said publicly that cross-agency and discipline collaboration is increasingly becoming the norm for the company’s large multinational clients. To that end, Omnicom has named other client-facing evps like Troy Ruhanen, Rita Rodriguez and Asit Mehra.
Prior to joining JWT, Sherman was the Milan-based evp, managing director of BBDO Europe with oversight of 18 countries, excluding the network’s offices in England, France and Germany. Before moving to Europe, Sherman was managing director of BBDO West in San Francisco for nearly five years. He previously worked at BBDO New York for eight years and rose to evp, account director. Sherman has also worked at McCann Erickson New York and the Chicago offices of FCB and Cramer-Krasselt.
