The more-involved father has become a familiar cultural type in the past decade. But is he as much a mythological figure as a real one? Seeking an answer from the most authoritative source — mothers of young kids — a poll by Parenting magazine’s Mom Matters newsletter found 60 percent of them saying today’s fathers are indeed more involved.

The poll also asked mothers where the fathers turn for information about raising their kids. Among respondents whose mates are resident in the household, 91 percent cited themselves as among the information resources to which the father is likely to turn for such guidance.
