What's the first information you consume in the morning?
I start by reading what's going on. You guys on the East Coast have already put all the first stories out there, so by the time I get up around 7 a.m., there's a bunch of useless information to consume.


What do you read or watch or listen to at the breakfast table?
I don't get the newspaper anymore, sadly, except on Sundays. So while the kids are eating their cereal, I go to my iPad and hit The New York Times and a couple of websites--Pop Candy, which is Whitney Matheson's website, and New York magazine's Vulture.

What occupies your mind in the car, on the subway, train, or bus? I listen to a lot of podcasts. One of my favorites is How Did This Get Made?, which is hosted by Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas. Each week they discuss a terrible movie they've all been forced to watch--unfortunately, I've usually already seen it.

Are you a TV junkie or on an airtime-restricted diet?
Junkie. I watch way too much television.

If you're a couch potato, what do you watch, and how: TV, laptop, or tablet?
I love Survivor. It's still a popular show, but finding Survivor enthusiasts? They're out there, but a lot of people aren't aware of how great that show is. I love Louie, of course, and Up All Night, Breaking Bad, and Parenthood. I watch a lot of it on my iPad.

Before bed, do you bite into a novel, graze on Twitter, or fast until morning?
I try to get reading done, usually on my iPad, because people put scripts on there, for either my show or something else I have to read. But recently, I read a book the old-fashioned way, and it was refreshing.

Which is more nutritious: print or Web?
I'm easily distracted when I'm trying to do work on my iPad, but it's nice to not have to remember to bring too many things when I'm leaving the house. But as far as which is more nutritious, it all depends on what information you're taking in.

Give us the skinny on your favorite app.
I love the HBO app, the NBC app, and Hulu and Netflix. If you have Wi-Fi, the quality is fantastic.


What's your biggest digital indulgence?
Probably iTunes. It's too easy to spend money on there because it doesn't feel like I'm spending money. When new releases come out, I'm a little too free with clicking on what I want.

With such a bloated media universe, how do you cut out the fat?
I don't know if it's because I'm getting older and my tastes are changing, or being busy and having a family and a job, but I only use what I have time for, and it's usually only things that I genuinely enjoy.
