Ice-T and Coco Discuss Their New Talk Show, Media Obsessions and Why They're Mad at Twitter

Ice-T: We have a camera system in our house that looks outside into our driveway, so the first thing we usually do is hit that to see if anybody's here. We're still in the process of moving into our crib and we've got people working, so we want to make sure we don't get up and run around the house butt-naked if anybody's downstairs. [Laughs] And then right after that, while we're still in bed, we go over our schedule for the day. I say, "Coco, what's your plan for the day?" And then we go over my plan and try to make them merge. Coco: We've been doing that every single day for years! What are your go-to social media platforms? Ice-T: I just use Twitter. I don't like Instagram because I'm a guy and I don't really like taking pictures of everything. And I don't have a Facebook. Coco does more [social networking] because she's much more of an Internet personality. Coco: I mostly use Facebook. I feel like Twitter's kind of outdated. It was, like, a boom five years ago. But there are so many more people on Facebook, and I like that I can go on there and post whatever I want to say. Twitter is harder because you only have 140 characters. I like to get really detail-oriented, and it drives me crazy that I can't do that on Twitter. Ice-T: Also, Coco's Twitter broke last year. It's stuck at 1.14 million followers. The number won't move. So that's kind of a downer. Have you reached out to Twitter about getting that fixed? Ice-T: Reached out to who? No one seems to work for Twitter! It's like a phantom organization. We probably have to get Batman to find out who runs it! [Laughs] Coco: My publicist and manager have gone to Twitter, and no one seems to work there. It's really crazy. I love that your dogs also have their own Instagram account. Coco: Well, let me correct you. They actually have Instagram, Twitter and Facebook! And when you put them together, they have almost 100,000 followers. Ice-T: It's fun for me because when some idiot says something bad to me on Twitter, I can always say, "Catch up to my dogs' followers before you say something stupid." [Laughs] What are your favorite apps? Ice-T: It's gotta be Coco's workout app. That's how we stay in shape! Coco: It's called Coco's Workout World. It's all of the workout moves that I do in the gym. We do fun stuff like twerking. Go take a look at it, you'll laugh! Ice-T: And you love Waze. Coco: Yeah, I'm really into getting points! I'm like, "Honey, I graduated! I'm no longer a baby Waze; I'm a teenager Waze!" And just recently, I graduated to an adult Waze. Ice laughs at me, but it's fun because I'm in the car with him all the time, so it's like a little game I do while he's driving. As much as we travel, I'm racking up those points. Do you win prizes or anything? Coco: No! No money, nothing! It's just a stupid game! [Laughs] Ice-T: It's like that weird self-satisfaction you get from playing video games when you finally win a level, and no one on Earth cares but you, but it's the most important thing you could ever accomplish. Are you a gamer? Ice-T: I'm heavy into it. I love gaming, whether it's Call of Duty or the new Mortal Kombat or Pay Day. Being at home and playing with other people online is fun, because you can have friends without having to invite them over to your house. What TV shows do you watch? Ice-T: Naked and Afraid. Coco: Yeah, that's a good one because it's an hour long, and we watch it at night when we're about to go to bed, and it gets you sleepy. Ice-T: It's actually the dumbest pretense to any show in the world. I was in the military, and there's no situation where you would ever be in the woods butt-naked, ever. And these people don't win any prizes or get any money. It's ridiculous. Do you watch any scripted shows? Ice-T: Oh, yeah, I just got finished watching Daredevil. I loved it. Coco: I like Wayward Pines. I'm obsessed with that. Ice-T: What's the one we watched about the Internet guys? Coco: Oh, Silicon Valley! Ice-T: Yeah. That's a show you wouldn't think Ice-T would watch, but I think it's funny! It's like, what really goes on in Silicon Valley? There's so much money moving around out there. What's on your reading lists? Coco: I actually have two books that I'm reading at the same time, Goddess: The Secret Lives of Marilyn Monroe and All Pets Go To Heaven by Sylvia Browne. Ice-T: And I'm not reading a damn thing! Every time I get a break, I go to sleep. [Laughs] Tell me about your new talk show, Ice & Coco. Have you been doing rehearsals? Coco: We did a rehearsal back in January, and it was really fun. It was like talk show boot camp. You don't know how much goes into making a talk show; it's not just sitting in front of a camera. There's a lot going on around you. We're going to start shooting soon, so we're coming up with all the ideas now. Ice-T: When you get to a certain position, people come to you with ideas. So it wasn't like we thought we could do a talk show; people were like, "You should do a talk show." It's actually been fun! We're just going to try our best and see what the world says. Do you guys watch a lot of daytime talk shows? Ice-T: I hate 'em. Coco: No, we're usually not at home during the day. We might catch Jerry Springer every now and then—and we can't believe that's still on TV—but if there's one talk show that I watch, I'd have to say it's The Real. I was actually on their test run when they first started, and I really liked it. Ice-T: And I'm a guy, so I don't really watch talk shows. I think a lot of them are very one-sided. You've got the female telling you everything, and I'm like, "Come on, I need a little male perspective on some of these things!" So our show will be very interesting. I think the fact that I don't watch talk shows will definitely make this a unique adventure. [Laughs] Who would be your dream guests for the show? Coco: I have a lot, but my number one is Charlize Theron. I've been a fangirl of hers for years. I loved her when she was modeling—people don't even realize that she was a model before she was an actress—and as an actress, I loved her in Monster. Ice-T: And Mad Max! We just saw Mad Max. Coco: Yeah. Charlize is the full package. I would love to meet her someday. Ice-T: And I'd like to get Barack Obama after he gets out of the White House, just so he can tell me where the spaceships are and all the good stuff. [Laughs] He could come on wearing a hip-hop T-shirt and just kind of let his hair down and be a normal person. I know there's so much that he wants to say that he can't say right now, so I'd love to get the first interview after he leaves the White House. That would be crazy.
