NEW YORK Strengthening its foothold in New England, Hearst-Argyle Television has agreed to acquire the assets of WMTW-TV, WMTW Broadcast Group’s ABC affiliate serving Portland-Auburn, Maine, for $37.5 million cash. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter.

With WMTW, Hearst-Argyle will own four stations in the region including WCVB-TV, the ABC affiliate in Boston; WNNE-TV, the NBC affiliate in Burlington/White River Junction, Vt.; and WMUR-TV, the ABC affiliate in Manchester, N.H., which the company purchased in 2001 for $185 million.
