Extending its already existing relationship as default search engine for Santa Clara, Calif.-based Internet bellwether Yahoo!, Mountain View, Calif.-based Google announced on Monday that it will be aligning with Yahoo! Japan. Google’s search technology now powers 19 Yahoo! properties worldwide.

Google will serve as Yahoo! Japan’s underlying search engine, complimenting the popular Japanese portal’s current Web directory and navigational guide. Yahoo! Japan garners more than 19 million unique users each month. Google penetrated the Japanese market earlier this year, introducing a wireless version of Google for NTT DoCoMo’s Internet-ready I-mode phones.
