Americans are more apt to give their couches a workout than to give themselves one, judging by a new report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Analyzing data collected 2003-06 for the American Time Use Survey, it says 16 percent of Americans 15 and older engaged in “sports or exercise activities on an average day.”

Of the activities covered by the report, there were just three in which double-digit percentages of people said they participate on an average day: walking (30 percent), weightlifting (13 percent) and “using cardiovascular equipment” (13 percent).
