Germany's Serviceplan Repeats as Grand Prix Winner in Design

Sustainability report on single store receipt

CANNES, France—Serviceplan in Munich, Germany, walked off with its second straight Design Lions Grand Prix here tonight, winning this time for embedding a store's sustainability report on a single shopping receipt.

Users could scan the receipt using an app on their smartphones to get all kinds of information on Auchan's sustainable practices. And of course, the process itself is sustainable. Serviceplan says it saved 99 percent of the paper that would have gone to printing paper reports.

Last year, Serviceplan won the top Design prize for designing a solar-powered annual report for an Austrian solar company.

U.S. agencies won two Gold Lions, four Silver Lions and six Bronze Lions.

Firstborn in New York won gold for its "Uniqlo Storms Pinterest" campaign. And Landor Associates in San Francisco won for Nine Suns Winery.

The silvers went to The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., for its "Cloud Over Cuba" project for the JFK Presidential Library & Museum; DDB in New York for the New York City Ballet's "The Great Tower of Faile"; Office in San Francisco for branding Wee Society; and Wolff Olins in New York for USA Today's new visual identity.

The bronze winners were BBDO in New York for Procter & Gamble's Grooming Book; DDB in New York for the NYC Ballet's "Faile" art series; Ogilvy & Mather in New York for IBM; Ogilvy in Chicago for Camp Wandawaga; Interbrand in New York for Sky New Zealand; and Leo Burnett in Chicago for Recipeace, a project that brings people together over a meal to support the Peace One Day initiative.
