NEW YORK The Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit against three California men, accusing them of violating federal law by sending out unsolicited e-mail messages advertising sexually explicit Web sites.

The suit, filed in Illinois U.S. District Court, accuses Brian Muir, Jesse Goldberg and Caleb Wickman of sending out millions of e-mail messages advertising “lonely housewives” services at more than 180 Web sites operated by their companies, Cleverlink Trading Limited and Real World Media.

According to the FTC, the e-mails sent violate several provisions of the federal CAN-SPAM Act by including misleading subject lines and falsified header information, and are missing postal addresses, notice that the material sent is sexually explicit and an unsubscribe option.
