Not every well-remembered campaign is “iconic.” Some were only mildly amusing, like Foster’s “How to speak Australian,” which was informed by the Crocodile Dundee/Men At Work-driven Aussie craze of the ’80s, a mania that was waning by the time the original spots appeared. In “Bailout,” which is typical of the latest series of 15-second vignettes, an Outback Jack type is unable to pay for his beer, and the bartender lets him sip suds free. Try pulling that for real Down Under and they’d probably stuff you headfirst into a didgeridoo.
