Food marketers are taking a consistent approach to their messaging. Companies like Coca-Cola, ConAgra and General Mills have expressed an interest in a new nutrition labeling system to be unveiled at the American Dietetic Assn. conference Oct. 25-28 in Chicago.

The Smart Choices Program involves a green check logo that lists the calories and serving sizes on the front of food packages. The coalition, which ranged from retailers like Wal-Mart to food companies like PepsiCo and Kraft, developed the voluntary industry standard to aid consumers in making informed shopping purchases.
