NEW YORK Euro RSCG has hired Phil Buehler, former director of account planning at mcgarrybowen, to assume the new global role of chief market scientist.
Buehler, 51, joins the Havas agency after seven months of freelancing there. He is charged with designing and implementing consumer and brand research initiatives across the network.
He'll be based at Euro RSCG's New York office and report to Andrew Benett, global chief strategy officer. "He will deliver innovative approaches and techniques that will further enhance Euro RSCG's research capabilities and thought leadership," said Benett in a statement.
Buehler spent three years at mcgarrybowen in New York, where he worked with clients such as Chevron, Marriott and Verizon Communications. He left the independent agency in July 2007.
Before mcgarrybowen, Buehler was director of brand strategy at WPP Group's Young & Rubicam in New York, where he helped develop the shop's Brand Asset Valuator research tool. Earlier in his career, he was director of strategy and database marketing at Y&R sister agency Wunderman here.
Buehler holds a master's in business administration from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, a master's in fine arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Rutgers University in East Brunswick, N.J.
Separately, Euro RSCG's office in San Francisco has added Hainan Airlines and Grotto Cellars following reviews, the shop said. Hainan is a major carrier in Asia and the only airline that offers nonstop service between the Pacific Northwest and mainland China. Grotto ranks among the leading U.S. wine cellar and racking system designers and manufacturers.
