How much household income does it take to qualify as “wealthy”? For nearly half the respondents to a Marist Poll last month, a measly $250,000 a year would not suffice.
Fifty-five percent said such an income “makes you wealthy,” but 45 percent said it doesn’t.
Among those whose own household income is under $50,000, 63 percent said $250,000 would put a household in the ranks of the wealthy.
Respondents in the $50,000-plus range split almost evenly on the question, with 51 percent saying the $250,000 income would make a person wealthy and 49 percent saying it wouldn’t.
