Portland, Oregon-based digital creative agency Swift Collective has acquired Los Angeles-based public relations agency Saeger Media Group for an undisclosed sum.
The combined company, announced Monday, will operate under the name Swift, and employ about 80 staffers.
"We have already seen PR and digital and social merge in the mindset of the consumer," said Liz Valentine, CEO of Swift, who added that the company sees an opportunity to amplify its work in design, development, and social media.
The acquisition closed July 15. It brings together Swift Collective's 60 staffers, and clients like Nike, with Saeger's 20 staffers and clients such as Smoothie King. The new agency will maintain offices in both Portland and Los Angeles.
Katy Saeger, founder of Saeger Media Group, becomes partner and chief communications officer at Swift. Alicia McVey remains Swift's chief creative officer, and Paul Willie its chief technology officer.
The two companies test-drove the joint digital and public relations strategy starting late last year with a campaign for snack bar brand Think Thin, and continued to partner together on campaigns this year for clients like Barre3, a fitness chain.
Swift also works with Microsoft and Starbucks, but declined to name what it does for each brand. Saeger brings clients like Manduka, a seller of yoga accessories, with it to the new company.
Before launching Swift Collective in 2007, Valentine spent nine years client side at Nike, working on digital strategy. Her resume also includes time at Lucy Activewear and Forrester Research.
Saeger started her career as a media planner at Young & Rubicam, before working in a range of public relations and marketing roles, and launching Saeger Media Group, also in 2007.
