DDB Taps Kassaei as Worldwide CCO

Bob Scarpelli has handed off his worldwide chief creative officer role to Amir Kassaei, associate partner and CCO of DDB Germany, the agency said today.

The New York–based Scarpelli, 58, retains his other role as worldwide chairman. The move comes nearly a year after Scarpelli contracted a staph infection that limits his ability to travel.

Kassaei, 42, has been at DDB for around a decade. Key clients of DDB Germany include Volkswagen and Reebok. DDB, a unit of Omnicom Group, handles VW across many markets outside the U.S. and is lead global creative agency for Reebok. As global CCO, Kassaei will split his time between New York and Berlin.

Scarpelli described his successor as an “innovator, a provocateur and an inspiring leader.” Worldwide CEO Chuck Brymer added that Kassaei has a “strong commitment to great work in every type of communication and to inspiring others to succeed.”

Scarpelli, a 34-year veteran of DDB, has been CCO since 2005 and chairman since 2006. As chairman, he’ll continue to work with key clients such as McDonald’s and Anheuser-Busch InBev.
