CHICAGO Coors Brewing has installed Lee Buxton as interim chief marketing officer, at least temporarily filling the post left vacant when Ron Askew left the brewery in December, the company said on Friday.
Buxton has been with the Golden, Colo., brewery since 1977, with his last post being vice president of marketing. He left in 2003 and has been serving as a consultant to Coors since.
In his new role, Buxton reports to Coors president and CEO Leo Kiely. In addition to looking for a full-time CMO, the brewery is also looking for a U.S. president. Shareholders of the company are also scheduled to vote on a merger with Canada's Molson on Jan. 19.
Coors spends about $180 million on advertising annually. Its agencies are Interpublic Group shops Foote Cone & Belding in Chicago and Deutsch in Los Angeles.
