Citizens Communications will leave Ingalls Advertising at year's end, reassigning its business to Dixon Schwabl Advertising in Pittsford, N.Y.
An Ingalls representative downplayed the loss of the Stamford, Conn.-based telecommunications client last week, noting that its spending had fallen off drastically. The loss will have "no impact" on the Boston shop and was not a factor in a round of layoffs at the shop two weeks ago, the representative said [Adweek, Nov. 16].
When Ingalls won the account nearly two years ago, annual spending was pegged in the $10-15 million range. Current spending, almost entirely through direct mail, is about $500,000, said Citizens representative Connie Goebel. Given the cutbacks, the client chose to switch from a full-service agency to a smaller shop, she said. --David Gianatasi
