CHICAGO Chrysler Group does not plan to renew its contract with Omnicom's Arnell Group, which expires at the end of the year, sources said.

The New York shop had been hired in 2002 by former Chrysler executive vice president of global sales and marketing Jim Schroer, who resigned last May and was replaced by Joe Eberhardt.

Arnell brokered the $20 million-plus deal that brought in chanteuse Celine Dion as spokeswoman for the automaker. Dion sang and appeared in television spots that broke in January to introduce Chrysler's Pacifica crossover vehicle. Dealers panned the effort, and Dion quickly disappeared from advertising.

Chrysler representative James Kenyon declined to comment on Arnell's status. "We have that contract through the end of the year," Kenyon said. "We'll honor it through that period."

Peter Arnell, chairman of the Arnell Group, could not be reached.
