Cardinal Health, a medical supply distributor and manufacturer, has launched the Pharmacy Health Network. The in-store digital network, introduced earlier this month at the Cardinal Health Retail Business Conference, the company's annual trade show for independent and franchise pharmacies, is designed to reach retail pharmacy customers at the point of purchase.

More than 700 pharmacies have signed up for the network, which is available at no cost to more than 5,000 independent retail and franchises pharmacies served by Cardinal Health.

Content airing on the network's LCD screens will include programming from NBC Digital Health Network and weather segments provided by AccuWeather, along with advertising from pharmaceutical, over-the-counter, consumer health and health-care related companies.

Retailers can also use the network to promote in-store specials, health screenings and other local information. As part of the network package, retailers receive a custom brochure rack to provide pharmacy customers with easy access to health-related materials, coupons and brochures.

"Retailers benefit, because the network will help to educate, engage and offer savings to their patients, while they wait for their prescriptions to be filled; and because the flat-panel LCD screens and quality content give their pharmacies a modern, high-end feel," said Jeff Foreman, vp of strategic purchasing for Cardinal Health.

Dallas-based Respario Digital Advertising Group, will handle installation at participating retailers, and manage the network and its content. The underlying technology for the new network is from Real Digital Media, which offers a scalable digital sign platform.
