LOS ANGELES Aegis Group's Carat will bring in Jennifer White Lee as vp, gm and group client service director of its Chicago office, the agency said today.

White Lee most recently served as senior partner and group planning director at WPP Group's MindShare, Chicago, where she oversaw American Family Insurance. Previously, she was senior partner and communications strategy director at Mediaedge:cia. At Carat, she reports to Scott Sorokin, president.

Sorokin said in a statement that White Lee "brings tremendous cross-category experience that will benefit our clients and internal teams alike. We are impressed with her strategic thinking and her approach to general management, along with her expertise in communications planning." He added that White Lee "understands the importance of a consumer-centric approach to marketing, which fits perfectly with Carat's approach and vision to managing our clients' business."

White Lee, who starts at the shop next month, said the job feels to her like "going back to my roots. It is a much more entrepreneurial environment, with that sort of eagerness and flexible structure, yet having the backbone of global resources."

Earlier in her career, White Lee worked at CPM in Chicago before it became the nation's second office of CIA. She said her goal was to expand the office's accounts organically and "define a center of excellence for Chicago."

White Lee praised Carat's "forward-thinking people" and added that having observed the work of Carat "in Chicago and across the U.S., I am inspired and impressed by the agency's ability to take a holistic view and approach to their work."
