At a time when consumers are eating out less, Campbell is benefiting from the trading down trend.

The soup giant reported better-than-expected fourth quarter earnings this morning, and could very well catch up to the heels of chief rival Progresso, analysts said.

In a call with analysts today, CEO Douglas Conant said U.S. sales of soups, sauces and beverages increased by 12%. Campbell’s fourth quarter sales jumped 13% to $1.72 billion. Campbell topped analysts
