BBDO Exits Atlantis Pitch

NEW YORK BBDO has exited the Atlantis Paradise Island resort review, leaving two contenders for the estimated $15-20 million account, sources said.

The agency's Atlanta office reached the final round before withdrawing due to a potential conflict, a BBDO representative confirmed today. Another BBDO office is said to be in line for an account that conflicts with Paradise. The rep declined to elaborate.

Atlantis is not expected to fill the Omnicom Group agency's slot or proceed with the remaining finalists: Omnicom's Merkley + Partners and independent ML Rogers, both here. The finalists emerged last month after client executives visited eight agencies.

Atlantis, a unit of Kerzner International Holdings, whose U.S. headquarters is in Plantation, Fla., could not immediately be reached and the New York-based consultancy managing the review, Roth Associates, did not return calls.
 
The contenders were briefed last week and final presentations were slated for late February, said sources.

The three-year incumbent, independent The Richards Group in Dallas, is not defending.

The 60-acre resort is located on Paradise Island in the Bahamas and features a casino, 3,000 rooms and 35 restaurants. Kerzner fully or partially owns about 10 luxury hotels and plans to co-develop a multibillion-dollar resort in Las Vegas with MGM Mirage.
