BOSTON The Art Directors Club has selected its jury lineup for the 2005 ADC awards interactive competition.
The jury will be chaired by Kevin Wassong, former CEO of Connect@JWT. Wassong plans to urge jury members to view interactive work in the larger context of big ideas, not simply in terms of creative execution.
"A 'big idea' in the interactive space is about more than just a great execution," said Wassong in a statement. "Great big ideas are complete, all-encompassing, well-architected experiences. I'd like to see the ADC interactive jury focus on what a big idea really is."
Before joining JWT, where he founded the interactive division, Wassong held senior posts at Lowe & Partners Worldwide. At Lowe, he was the second person to join the agency's interactive unit and he co-founded its San Francisco office, which handled the Sun Microsystems business. Wassong also had stints at @radical.media and Cliff Freeman and Partners.
"Kevin will bring a unique perspective to our judging process this year, as someone who came to the interactive advertising industry with a background in TV development and entertainment," said ADC executive director Myrna Davis in a statement. "Increasingly, interactive work for both advertisers and organizations has to do more than merely look good or convey information, but it has to create a true sense of exchange. From BMW Films all the way to 'Subservient Chicken,' we're seeing how the Web can spur consumer involvement with both brands and messages."
Other 2005 interactive jury members include Keith Anderson of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco; Mathias Appelblad of Forsman & Bodenfors in Goteborg, Sweden; Greg Bell of Venables, Bell & Partners in San Francisco; and Matt D'Ercole of Digitas in New York.
