Why Second Screen, Social is Essential to Drawing in the Younger TV News Viewer

There were a lot of takeaways from last week’s social TV panel at the TVNewser Show, and we also learned some things about what makes the younger TV news viewer tune in.

After speaking with some of the over 900 people in attendance for the TVNewser media job fair–many of them falling on the lower end of the all-important 25-54 younger demo–the prominence of social media and second screen platforms became clear.

“We’re always on our second screen, our Facebook, and our Twitter,” one respondee told us, adding that “the future of news” is  the anchor on social media relaying information to them.

From a news anchor upping his or her social media reporting, to TV show stars interacting with their fans via second screen, the evolution of social interaction as a key to drawing in the younger generation of viewers is becoming more and more obvious.
