Weekend Roundup: What to Look for This Fall

By Karen Fratti

Summer is over and premiere season will soon be upon us. Are you ready for it? Here are a few primer materials so you’re prepared for the upcoming semester, er, season:

  • Vulture never fails to have a grasp on what’s worth watching and what isn’t. They can even tell you if  you should watch Fear the Walking or not (spoiler: probably not.) But they also have this handy roundup of what you should be looking out for as TV starts to get good again, whether it Aziz Ansari’s new Netflix sitcom or Neil Patrick Harris’ weekly variety show. I think we’ll be tweeting a lot on Tuesdays about that one.
  • To get into how people will be turning in, Yahoo and Brightroll released a study this week on digital video and people who watch for sheer entertainment value. They call them Entertain-iasts, but you can get past that.  You can see the full report here. Some key findings:

Entertain-iasts are 23 percent more likely than non-Entertain-iasts to stream video outside the home and 49 percent more likely to do so while traveling or commuting

Entertain-iast Millennials are 54 percent more likely to share or mention video ads to friends and family

24 percent of Entertain-iasts found video ads more enjoyable than static ads.

  • As the 2016 election debacle heats up, CNN announced that CNN Politics was number one again, for the fifth time in a row, in video consumption. They’ve been on a roll. Here’s how they trumped BuzzFeed, Yahoo and other contenders:

CNN Politics: 18 million unique visitors

Fox News Politics: 13 million unique visitors

Politico.com:  11 million unique visitors

Yahoo! Politics: 10 million unique visitors

ThePoliticalInsider.com: 10 million unique visitors

HuffPost Politics: 10 million unique visitors

You can check out the multiplatform visitors and other numbers here. Who knows how they’ll fare once we stop talking about Trump?
