Update: Amazon Picks All 3 Shows From ‘Pilot Season’

By Steve Safran

The TickLast month, we reported on Amazon Video’s “Pilot Season,” where you vote on which of its three pilots it should pick up for a full run. We now know the winners: All three. Amazon made the announcement this week so, if you enjoyed any of the three, you’re in luck.

The pilots are for a reboot of the comic series The Tick, a comedy that parodies Jean Claude Van-Damme called Jean Claude Van Johnson, and a show starring Kevin Bacon called I Love Dick. When I reviewed them last month, I thought The Tick and Jean Claude Van Johnson showed promise, but that I Love Dick (“Dick” is Bacon’s character) was slow and not very funny.

“These pilots were vast in scope, disruptive in tone, challenging in story and sometimes even funny,” said Joe Lewis, Head of Half-Hour Series, Amazon Studios. “It’s rewarding to see customers embrace them in such a huge way. We can’t wait to premiere these series next year on Prime Video.”

Season one for all three of the shows will come next year. Amazon includes free access to these as part of membership to Amazon Prime.
