Times Square Alliance Partners With Ustream for New Year’s Eve Coverage

By Adam Flomenbaum

TS2015_Waterford-Crystal-Installation_10There’s a reason why thousands of people line the streets of an often-freezing Times Square on New Year’s Eve to watch the ball drop.

If you can’t be there in person to watch the 10 second drop of the unofficial harbinger of 2015, the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment have partnered with Ustream to offer a six and a half hour webcast of the event. This marks the first time that Ustream will host the webcast (Livestream has the past five years).

The stream will be available at http://www.newyearseve.nyc/nyc/webcast/index.aspx#.VKIK_8AAQ and via the official Android and iOS apps.

While the event has been streamed in years past, for the first time this year, pre-event coverage will be available only via download. This coverage began on Saturday and features HD b-roll footage highlighting event preparation:

12/27 (Crystal Installation)

12/28 (Good Riddance Day)

12/29 (Confetti Test)

12/30 (Ball Test and Balloon Preparation)

1/5 (Ball Re-lighting & Raising).

The day-of coverage will be led by host Allison Hagendorf and will feature live, commercial-free coverage of the action in Times Square. Coverage will include hourly countdowns, the ball raising ceremony, and performances by bands O.A.R.and American Authors.
