In an effort to further meld social, tv, and broadband, Time Warner recently launched TWC Central – an online hub designed to connect customers to news, entertainment, social networking, and Time Warner’s web products. TWC Central will replace the Road Runner website, which boasted more than 5.7 million visitors per month.
While the “Road Runner portal was a very popular online destination among Time Warner Cable’s customers,” according to Steven Cook, Vice President and General Manager of High-Speed Data at the company, “the new portal offers more content, utilities and features that allow our customers to connect with news, information, and each other.”
More than a simple rebranding effort, TWC Central will begin to offer original content and allow customers to access live TV outside of their homes via TWCTV.com. On the social front, TWC Central will allow customers to login with Twitter and Facebook accounts in order to seamlessly comment, share, rate, review, and chat with other TV fans.
TWC Central signals a significant commitment by Time Warner to capitalize on growing social TV trends, and it will be interesting to see how this project informs its social strategy for set-top boxes moving forward.
