The social reaction to 1600 Penn: strong cast, but not quite Modern Family

So far, 1600 Penn, NBC’s answer to Modern Family, has received very mixed reviews (Metacritic currently has it at a 55 out of 100). NBC released the pilot of 1600 Penn back in December, and Networked Insights (NI) has been able to capture the social reaction to the show in the month leading up to the national premiere. While fans are drawn in by the show’s strong cast, they have been balking at the comparison to Modern FamilyHere are the highlights from NI’s report.

 Positive reactions:

18% of positive reactions thought that the cast was enjoyable

6% of positive reactions were driven particularly by Josh Gad and his character “Meatball”

Negative reactions:

24% of negative responses came from questioning why it’s a white president instead of a black one

22% of negative responses thought that this show was not the Modern Family competitor it was marketed to be

Other facts:

27% of viewers wished that Bill Pullman’s character was the same president from Independence Day

12% of viewers associate Josh Gad with his humorous role in The Book of Mormon

4% of viewers still fondly remember Jenna as Dharma from Dharma & Greg
